Spear Islington works with vulnerable young people in North London who face barriers to finding employment. We run the Spear Programme - a year long coaching programme to help young people find work. More importantly, we help build their confidence, self-worth and resilience so they stay in work.

We work with vulnerable young people in North London who are not able to find work. Most face a number of barriers to finding employment: low educational attainment, a criminal record, homelessness or a mental health issue. In some there is a sense of hopelessness which leads all too many into gangs, addictions and withdrawal from normal society. Their challenges have intensified by the ongoing cost of living crisis and an increasing lack of employment options partly due to GenAI.
We run the Spear Programme for up to 100 young people a year. This Programme is in two parts: Spear Foundation which lasts for six weeks and equips the young people with the skills and attitudes to find work. Spear Career then provides a year's support to help them find sustainable employment. They learn how to write CVs, develop communication and interviewing skills and build positive mind sets and resilience which is crucial to sustainable success. They also find confidence and hope.
