All of the girls we care for at Baale Mane have had very challenging starts in life. They come from backgrounds marked by orphanhood, abandonment, violence, abuse, neglect, and extreme poverty. Some of the girls have never previously attended school. Many have had prolonged breaks in their studies. Most are behind the developmental levels of their peers. Without an education girls are more likely to remain below the poverty line, to marry young and are at higher risk of domestic violence.

All the girls are enrolled in local schools & colleges, and are supported with tailored supplementary tutoring. Formal education is supplemented through a variety of programmes, including counselling, girls’ right awareness, life skills, job readiness sessions, sports & creative expression classes. We also run a scholarship programme for the older girls who wish to pursue vocational training or a college degree. The charity supports each young woman until she becomes a self sustaining adult.
