Christmas should be one of the happiest times in childhood. Yet for many low-income families, it becomes a season of impossible choices. Parents worry about keeping their homes warm, putting food on the table and still giving their children a Christmas they can enjoy. Children often understand far more than adults realise. They know when there are no presents to open or celebrations to look forward to, and many return to school in January feeling different from their classmates.

Wood Street Mission's Christmas Project helps parents create a joyful Christmas despite financial hardship. Rather than receiving pre-selected parcels, parents choose gifts that are right for their own children, preserving dignity, choice and the joy of giving. By relieving some of the financial pressure at one of the most expensive times of the year, families are better able to use their limited income on essentials such as food, heating and other household costs.
