Childhood ear disease is extremely common in Cambodia and a major cause of preventable hearing loss. Children in rural communities lack access to screening and ear care, leading to infections and often permanent damage. Hearing loss can affect speech, learning, educational attainment and social inclusion. Early detection and treatment remain limited, particularly for children from low-income families. We aim to treat marginalised children and integrate them into main stream society.

Our partner AEC will deliver school-based ear and hearing screening for 4,000 children in Siem Reap Province. Children identified with ear disease or hearing loss will be referred to AEC’s clinic for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. The programme combines outreach, specialist clinical services, hearing assessment, rehabilitation (hearing aid fittings) and ear health education, creating a clear pathway from detection to recovery and helping prevent avoidable hearing loss. £5 per child.
