While for most Christmas is a time of fun and celebration, for the families of those in prison, it can be a painful reminder of separation. Through Prison Fellowship Scotland’s Angel Tree project, we help bring hope and joy by organising Christmas parties and providing gifts

Prison population in Scotland is at an all-time high. This means there are more families than ever affected by having a family member in prison. This separation is highlighted at Christmas, when children often feel the stigma associated with a parent being absent, and families face the challenge of wanting to make Christmas still feel like a time of celebration when money can be hard to come by. A lack of contact erodes a sense of hope leading to greater despair for those in prison.
Our Angel Tree project is all about giving some hope and cheer into this challenging time. Collaborating with family centres in all the Scottish prisons, we strive to make Christmas brighter for the children of those in prison. We help organise Christmas parties and ensure they receive gifts. Beyond the joy it brings to these children and young people, it offers parents in prison an opportunity to connect with their children during this special season.
