Your support will provide vital water supplies in Mali so that displaced families in refugee camps can return home and rebuild their lives. A peace agreement has made it safe to return to villages in Central Mali but without water this is not possible.

In Bandiagara region of Mali many villages were attacked, burnt and destroyed, primarily from 2014-19, leading to a tragic and massive displacement of people. The displaced people have spent years in refugee camps where hunger and poverty is widespread and many people have died. They are desperate to return home. The most urgent need identified by displaced communities and local authorities is to restore water in their villages to make their return possible.
We will work with water specialists to repair and renew lost village water infrastructure such as boreholes, wells, water towers, and standpipes that have been abandoned for long periods of time, have been damaged and are no longer functioning. Some people who have already returned are drinking from ponds with unsafe water and these will soon dry up. If there is water, everyone can return home and begin to rebuild their homes and lives. It costs just £5.51 to provide someone with clean water.
