In rural Kumasi, poverty continues to prevent many children from accessing full education. For the poorest families, the full cost of education can be out of reach, making it hard for some children to attend school with what they need. Children with disabilities, particularly those with neurodiversity or physical disabilities, are among the least likely to attend. Brightlingsea Academy removes these barriers by providing free education, daily meals and a safe place to learn for 452 children.

Brightlingsea Academy provides selective places at our free nursery, primary and junior high education for 452 children from some of the poorest families in rural Kumasi. Every child receives two nutritious meals each school day, learns in a strictly corporal-punishment-free environment, and is supported by a team that works closely with families to remove barriers to education, including those faced by children with disabilities.
