Rivers have become national symbols of ecological decline and public demand for stronger environmental protection. They remain under severe pressure from nutrient pollution, nature loss and climate impacts like flooding & drought. In Wales, 1 in 5 species are threatened with extinction. Many river & and wetland species have sharply declined, primarily due to habitat loss and degradation. Beavers, a native keystone species, trigger cascading benefits that will bring back an abundance of wildlife.

We will lead the first ever licensed wild reintroduction of beaver in Wales, located at its heart on the River Dyfi. Beavers are the ultimate ‘ecosystem engineers,’ a foundational keystone species, essential for repairing heavily depleted landscapes. They’re proven to be the single most effective measure to restore wetlands & unlock multiple valuable functions for the benefit of people & nature. Landscapes with beavers act like sponges, retaining water & building resilience to climate events.
