HIP organises an international piano competition, concerts, masterclasses, and a Learning and Participation (L&P) programme designed to encourage a love of classical music in our community; this aims to increase access to the arts, working in primary schools, care homes and other community settings.

As one of the most deprived areas in England, residents in Hastings have limited access to enriching musical experiences. Classical music is often seen as exclusive, with 80% of UK classical musicians coming from affluent areas. This cultural disparity leaves a significant gap in cultural engagement, particularly in schools where music provision has been drastically cut.
Our Learning and Participation programme is designed to enhance access to music education for socioeconomically disadvantaged groups in Hastings; providing free opportunities to engage with classical music in an inclusive and welcoming setting. Our focus for 2027 is expanding our primary school programme, taking classical musicians into local schools for whole day composition workshops. We always offer free tickets to community groups and public service employees to attend our public concerts.
