There are approximately 53,000 families in Luton, with a higher than national average percentage of lone-parent families, a much higher percentage of families with dependent children and over 28% of children living in low income households. Local health research highlights that mental health struggles in Luton are heavily compounded by the town's high rates of poverty, with an estimated 23% of families in Luton having at least one family member struggling with mental health.
Participating in arts & culture directly improves mental health with a biological impact, emotional improvement & combatting isolation and loneliness. School holidays can be one of the most challenging times for families- we want to provide arts & cultural activities across the February half term that are free or low cost to access to support families & children in safe spaces across Luton that inspire creativity and connect families through culture.
