Last year we supported 10,750 children and young people aged 5-18 in schools, colleges, home and community settings. We also supported 512 vulnerable young adults aged 18-25 in custody. We want and need to do more. We plan to expand and enhance our services as need for our support continues to grow.

Our young people are experiencing more mental health challenges than ever before. In Teesside, those in the lowest income bracket are 4.5 times more likely to experience severe mental health problems than those in the highest income bracket. In addition, many young people, especially young males, feel stigmatised when attempting to seek support for their mental health. As a result, our young people are often ‘lost’ in the system or feel they have limited opportunities and no way out.

We’d like to provide every school with access to free age appropriate resources for children and parents, free training to teachers to enhance their pastoral care and support their own mental health, while extending our free drop-in session programme. Our Appropriate Adults team provides 24/7 support to those in custody, a lifeline for hundreds of young people. We want to provide resources to all custody suites and free training for police to understand how mental health impacts judicial issues.
