Art UK empowers children and young people through visual literacy, a skill as vital as reading and maths. Through curriculum-linked resources and creative tools, we help young learners navigate and understand our world. Our aim is for every school child to be visually literate by 2030.

UK art education has seen a sustained decline since 2010 – last year there were 48% less pupils taking Art and Design at GCSE and 31% at A Level. Meanwhile, 45% of non-art specialist primary teachers lack confidence in teaching art and design. As arts education has been shown to improve performance across the curriculum, including maths and English, this has a much broader impact on UK schoolchildren, leaving them with a creativity gap and unequipped to fully navigate our digital society.

Art UK supports teachers and young people by providing free learning resources designed to give them the confidence to engage with the Art and Design curriculum. Ranging from curriculum linked lesson plans to exam resources, each digital resource is supported by relevant artworks from over 1 million available on Art UK. Broadening the range of these resources to include making activities with step-by-step instructions for creating art at home will help young people to bridge the creativity gap.
