We want to provide world class music education opportunities to children in an area where 1 in 3 children are classed as living in poverty. We believe that all children should have access irrespective of their financial circumstances. All children are entitled to a great music education.

Barnsley is the 38th most deprived area in England (2019 Index of Multiple Deprivation). 1 in 3 children are classed as living in poverty and children and families face considerable barriers. BYC aims to provide outstanding musical education to children and young people in an area of significant deprivation where access to high-quality music education in schools and beyond school is very limited. Our mission is to ensure that no child misses out on the transformative power of music.

We believe that every child in Barnsley deserves access to a world class music education, regardless of their financial background. With over 700 children now involved, the cost of delivering these life-changing opportunities grows at a time that families face stark financial challenges. We want to expose our members to world-class musicians, choirs and leaders. In order to do this we need to provide bursaries to ensure that there is an equity of opportunity and that no child is left behind.
