In Uganda, women in areas affected by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) are losing land, food and income, leading to rising exploitation and gender-based violence. This project works with women to rebuild safety and dignity through protection hubs, counselling, advocacy and training.

Development of extractive oil projects in Uganda is forcing women from their land. Over 300,000 women have already been displaced, and over 1 million are at risk as oil expansion continues. Without land, women can’t grow food and can’t sell produce for an income, meaning they become displaced in their own country. Poverty rises and women and girls face increased exploitation, school dropouts and gender-based violence. Without urgent support, many more risk losing homes, livelihoods and safety.

This project will strengthen women-led movements in oil-affected communities, building protection hubs offering counselling, referrals and safe support for women affected by GBV and displacement. Working with police, local leaders and land authorities, it will support access to gender justice and defend land rights. Through rights awareness, advocacy and practical skills, women and girls will be better equipped to rebuild their lives and lead action for land, climate and gender justice.
