20% of the UK population experience a communication difficulty in their lifetime. Being able to understand and be understood is fundamental to safety, wellbeing, opportunity, and identity. If you communicate differently it’s harder to build friendships, join leisure activities, find a job, volunteer, shop, use technology or access services and healthcare without support. These inequalities lead to loneliness, isolation, health inequalities and poor mental health. Carers are isolated too.

We apply speech and language therapy expertise in fun ways that look nothing like traditional therapy, to tackle the challenges faced by people with communication needs. Include empowers people with understanding and speaking difficulties, their families and support workers to help design, deliver and review the projects, services and training we provide. Our members designed the Be an Includer campaign to raise awareness of their needs and upskill the wider community so everyone is included.
