The number of children referred to mental health services in England in 2024-25 rose by 10% in a year to more than a million – about 1 in 10 children – almost double the number in 2018-19 (564,000). Meanwhile, the number of young people waiting over a year for CAMHS treatment increased by 50% between 2023 and 2024 (51,866 to 78,577). The impact is greatest on low-income families, who are 4.5 times more likely to experience severe mental health issues than those in the highest income brackets.

WLAC is a small, independent charity providing free, professional, time-unlimited solution-focused counselling and therapy for local children, young people, and families on low incomes. Our experienced team of therapists supports and empowers clients to recognise their strengths, build confidence and resilience, and achieve lasting change, helping them reach their potential. We offer flexible support tailored to our clients' needs. Last year, we worked with 530 local families.
