We're raising money for more young people to access Cornwall's folk traditions and cultural exchange opportunities. Folk is an inclusive way to build skills and confidence, learning music by ear or through dance and song, gaining a sense of belonging, pride in place and intergenerational connection.

Impact areas

Cornish folk resources for schools are scattered and difficult to find with no central hub for information and signposting. Cornwall has areas of high socio-economic deprivation and access costs can be a significant barrier to participation in musical and extra currcicular activities like the Youth Folk Ensemble, and there are few high quality, affordable activities for young people in school holidays. Rising living costs also restrict opportunities for young people to enjoy cultural exchange.

We'll work with schools to create and promote a clear online hub of primary resources. We will offer subsidised places on the Youth Folk Ensemble programme for those in need, and support subsidy of cultural exchange opporunities to ease cost of living pressures and continue these important confidence building, social opportunities for young people. We will pilot summer holiday activities to test models for these activities outside of term time to support growing demand.
