Christmas can make OCD feel unbearably lonely. Social pressures rise, intrusive thoughts intensify and anxiety spirals. OCD Action’s peer support groups offer safe spaces for people to talk, share, feel heard and find support from others who understand, so they feel less alone

OCD is a serious mental health condition affecting around 1 in 50 people in the UK. It causes intense anxiety, distressing intrusive thoughts and debilitating compulsions that can take over daily life. Often misunderstood, even by loved ones, it can leave people feeling isolated, and alone. At Christmas, social pressures and family expectations can intensify symptoms, leaving thousands with nowhere to turn, feeling completely alone. Yet with the right support and treatment, people can recover.

OCD Action is the leading OCD Charity in the UK. We will use £10,000 to make sure people affected by OCD have somewhere to turn when Christmas makes symptoms feel harder. We will train 10 volunteers, run four tailored, volunteer-led support groups for a year, and deliver one monthly Navigating the NHS group. This will give people safe, ongoing support from others who understand, alongside clear guidance on accessing treatment.
