Founded in 1768, The Leeds Library is a gem of a heritage library and the oldest surviving subscription library of its kind in the British Isles. It is Leeds’ oldest cultural institution. Our building’s historic 1808 timber window frames are a defining architectural feature and an irreplaceable part of our heritage. However, they are currently suffering from: • Advanced timber decay and rot • Structural weakening of joints • Loss of protective paint finishes • Increasing draughts and noise ingress Without intervention, we risk: • Permanent loss of original historic fabric • Escalating repair costs • Reduced usability of the building • Potential long-term damage to the panes

We will instruct a specialist company to repair the window frames, protecting the historic panes and completing the work in situ. All work will be guided by conservation best practice.
