This funding will support our outreach work, helping children and young people in West London escape a life of violence, gangs and knife crime. In 2027 we’ll work with 50-60 clients involved in Serious Youth Violence, providing practical and therapeutic support to address trauma and disadvantage.

Knife crime and other forms of youth violence are a major problem, spreading fear and anxiety through communities. Our clients can be perpetrators or victims of violent crime. Often their lives began with childhood abuse or neglect, disrupting their mental, behavioural and social development. Poverty, discrimination and other factors compound their problems. They struggle to function in our society - over 60% have been expelled from school and 90% have been charged or convicted.
The events and circumstances that lead a child to carry/use a knife are complex and long-term. So, Urban Therapy is holistic and lasts several years if needed. We don’t just address past trauma, but help build positive relationships, relieve poverty, provide support around housing and legal issues. On a 1:1 basis we see clients in the community, on the streets, in cafes, homes and cars, wherever they are comfortable. Our specialist workers also help with training/work and family support.
