There are at least 15,000 asylum seekers and resettled refugees across the South West, and we estimate 71% could be living with cumulative trauma - diagnosed or otherwise - from war, torture, persecution and dangerous journeys to safety. Many cannot access NHS services: long waiting lists, services not designed with their needs in mind, or people with suicidal thoughts or severe trauma can be turned away. To safely rebuild their lives, these people need specialist trauma care in their community.
Mental health teams and refugee support organisations trust us with their most complex referrals, because poor trauma care can do more harm than none at all. We create safe, consistent spaces where people are met with care, not harm. Unlike time-limited models, our therapists and interpreters - cultural facilitators, not translators - adapt to each person's needs. Weekly sessions for 18 months means people have time to properly build trust, connection and stabilise before symptoms are addressed.
