While many services close over Christmas, AWARE NI's peer-led support groups remain open across Northern Ireland. Led by trained volunteers, they provide safe, welcoming spaces for people living with anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder, ensuring no one faces Christmas alone.

Northern Ireland has some of the highest rates of poor mental health in the UK, with 1 in 5 adults experiencing a mental health condition. Christmas can intensify loneliness, anxiety and depression as financial pressures, grief, isolation and reduced access to support take their toll. For people living with anxiety, depression or bipolar disorder, this can be one of the most difficult times of the year, leaving many without the connection and support they urgently need.
AWARE NI delivers free, peer-led support groups across Northern Ireland, including throughout the festive period when many other services reduce or close. Led by trained volunteers with lived experience, our groups provide safe, welcoming spaces where people can share openly, feel understood and develop practical coping strategies. By reducing isolation, building resilience and encouraging early intervention, we help people manage their mental health and know they're not alone this Christmas.
