With colder temperatures and shorter days, we often spend more time indoors during winter. For those us that struggle with our mental health it can become daunting to connect during these darker months and loneliness and social anxiety creep in. Winter wellbeing is vital to keep moods boosted.

Loneliness affects around 1 in 4 adults in the UK, with 3.3 million people reporting they feel their loneliest during the festive season. The cost-of-living crisis has only amplified this, often pushing self-care and wellbeing to the bottom of the priority list, if included at all. Salford knows this better than most. With rising poverty and ranking as the 24th most deprived local authority in England, our community needs more accessible wellbeing support to stay connected and well this winter.
At Mind in Salford, we work to address the issues directly affecting our local community, providing support to combat crisis. To fight loneliness and social anxiety this winter, we plan to run a series of wellbeing sessions. These free, welcoming spaces will help people connect, build confidence and find purpose. Activities will include winter crafts, mindful walks and gentle movement, to reduce isolation and improving wellbeing when support is often limited.
