Many regional towns have excellent theatres and a thriving arts offer but, due to practical and technical restrictions, are unable to present major operas. Travelling to cities is therefore the only way to see ‘main-stage’ opera, and this is only possible for those with the means, ability and time to do so. To address this, we seek to invest in new touring infrastructure and specialist technology, allowing us to take our most inspiring & spectacular work to audiences across the whole of the UK.
WNO will invest in a modern touring infrastructure to support a new programme of flexible mid-scale productions. Funding will contribute towards touring lighting, rigging and conductor monitoring systems, alongside specialist wardrobe equipment, enabling us to present world-class opera in a wider range of venues. These investments will ensure audiences enjoy the same outstanding artistic experience whether they attend a WNO performance in a major auditorium or a smaller regional venue.
