Ocean-based solutions could deliver up to 35% of the emissions reductions needed to meet global climate goals, yet the ocean remains both overlooked and underfunded. Blue Marine’s climate team is working to repair this disconnect, helping establish the ocean as a central solution to climate change.

Beneficiaries
The ocean is a fundamental life source. It feeds over three billion people, contributes $2.5 trillion to the global economy and is home to more than half of the world’s species. Beyond these immediate benefits, the ocean is also one of our most powerful allies in the fight against climate change, absorbing around a third of humanity’s carbon emissions. Yet, despite this significance, the ocean’s role remains critically unrecognised, underfunded and decoupled from contemporary climate spaces.
Blue Marine’s climate team is working to repair this disconnect and build the value of the ocean as an integral solution to the climate crisis. We work with government to boost awareness of ocean-climate solutions such as blue carbon ecosystems, provide evidence to help remove damaging practices, secure greater protection and accelerate restoration at scale. As climate deadlines loom, this work ensures ocean-based solutions receive the attention, investment and platform they need.
