Here at the Ocean Conservation Trust, we provide a ‘blue’ approach to mental health and wellbeing support. From helping those in our communities to access the health benefits of the Ocean, to connecting people to the Ocean who wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach it.

The UK faces a growing mental health crisis, with 1 in 4 adults affected and long waits for support. Research shows that healthy blue spaces can reduce stress, improve wellbeing and strengthen connections with nature. Yet millions of people face barriers to experiencing these benefits due to geography, disability, illness, financial hardship or life circumstances. The Ocean Conservation Trust wants to change that.
Our Blue Mind Hub is an Ocean-based wellbeing programme that helps people experiencing poor mental health access the health benefits of the Ocean through social prescribing. It demonstrates how Ocean experiences can improve mental wellbeing, strengthen community connections and inspire pro-Ocean behaviours, while expanding accessible, inclusive opportunities for people who face barriers to accessing the coast.
