Wild Atlantic salmon are in crisis, with populations across the UK now classed as endangered due to freshwater habitat degradation, high mortality at sea, and the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. Their decline signals the wider deterioration of our rivers, threatening biodiversity, ecosystem health and the communities that depend on these iconic fish. Without action, we risk losing one of the UK's most valuable native keystone and indicator species.
Project Deveron is a partnership between the Atlantic Salmon Trust and Deveron, Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust. It combines catchment-scale habitat restoration with cutting-edge monitoring to tackle the causes of wild salmon decline and understand what drives recovery. It is reconnecting streams, removing barriers to migration, restoring woodland, and working with farmers, businesses and the community to build catchment-wide environmental stewardship.
