In 20 community schools in Jacobabad, Pakistan, 600 children spend the whole school day sitting on thin mats on the bare floor. With no proper furniture, it is hard to concentrate, write or take part, and long hours on the ground are uncomfortable and undignified. Around 60% are girls, who already face the greatest barriers to education. These schools have dedicated teachers and eager pupils, but nowhere proper to sit and learn. Every child deserves a comfortable, welcoming classroom.
This Christmas, PAGE will equip 20 community schools in Jacobabad with proper classroom furniture and supplies, i.e. sturdy writing-tablet chairs for all 600 children. For the first time, each child will have their own comfortable place to sit, write and learn. The schools run in partnership with the Directorate of Literacy and Non-Formal Education, Sindh, alongside our work to install solar power and make classrooms welcoming.
