Oxfordshire's countryside is facing unprecedented pressure from development and climate change. In CPRE's centenary year, we want to turn celebration into action: preparing the ground for a new generation of countryside defenders and inspiring more people to champion green space on their doorstep.

Countryside on the fringes of towns, villages and the city face relentless pressure from housebuilding, poorly designed energy developments and a planning system that is leaving communities powerless. Green spaces are disappearing, precious meadows are in decline, and many young people are growing up disconnected from the countryside on their doorstep. Without urgent action, communities will miss the opportunity to shape the future, restore nature, and protect landscapes that define Oxfordshire.
CPRE Oxfordshire will develop and deliver a new campaign and engagement programme that builds on two previous campaigns: the Green Defenders Network, designed to train and empower a new generation of expert planning volunteers, and our Love Your Countryside work to restore neglected meadows across the Oxford green belt, to build a movement of community campaigners. We will also pilot a compelling new community 'edgeland' experience to reconnect a younger, urban audience with their countryside.
