Winter makes practical inequality harder. Many Edinburgh households, especially those experiencing poverty, disadvantage and discrimination, cannot afford tools, repairs or learning support, while local groups lack equipment for community projects. People on low incomes, disabled people, migrants, older residents and isolated households are often least able to fix homes, borrow safely, learn skills or take part. Buying new is costly and wasteful; sharing and repair offer a fairer route.
We will turn Christmas generosity into practical support for 2027. We will provide low-cost tool lending, free or subsidised memberships, repair and DIY workshops, outreach with trusted community partners, volunteer support and equipment upkeep. Funds will help us reach neighbourhoods and groups facing the biggest barriers, so more people can borrow, mend, learn, save money and feel confident using shared resources. People will gain confidence, learn new skills and make community connections.
