Poor Literacy effectively disadvantages children, especially in rural areas within Uganda. This perpetuates poverty and is a major factor in school drop out - especially for girls. Once Literacy rates impove, the lack of access to books prevents further progress.

ServeDirect has already rolled out their highly successful Literacy programme, with partner READ for Life, in Nursery & Primary schools within Gulu, Northern Uganda. This combines teacher training, active reading sessions with the provision of unique Mobile Libraries to participating schools. We now plan to extend this programme to the more rural schools within Luwero District in Central Uganda, as well as extending the programme further to the more rural areas within Gulu District.
