The global scramble for ‘critical minerals’ is devastating communities on the frontlines of mining expansions. The extraction of copper, lithium, nickel and cobalt mining is fuelling displacement, polluting waterways, and destroying ecosystems. The UK is targeting a doubling of annual copper demand and 1100% increase in lithium demand by 2035. Mine expansions are fuelling militarism and the resource demands of the AI infrastructural boom.
London Mining Network is fighting back. We support communities on the frontlines of mine expansions and coordinate global networks resisting British mining giants Rio Tinto, Glencore and Anglo American. We challenge destructive ‘critical minerals’ narratives, exposing greenwashing and the harmful industries driving the scramble. We campaign for a globally just energy transition that minimises mining, delivers supply chain justice and defends communities’ sovereignty over their lands.
