Young refugees and people seeking sanctuary in the UK face major barriers. They are not allowed to work, have no access to student loans, and live on just £49.18 per week. Whilst waiting many months, if not years, for a decision on their asylum claim, language barriers, housing insecurity, mental health challenges, and a lack of support within an increasingly hostile environment mean many become isolated and disengaged as they struggle to access the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Hope for the Young runs two high-quality programmes that work together holistically to remove the obstacles to young refugees' education and well-being. The Mentoring Programme matches newly arrived young people with volunteer Mentors who provide weekly one-to-one support tailored to their needs. The Grants and Advocacy Programme provides small bursaries for tuition fees and study costs, alongside a package of emotional and practical support to help young people access and succeed in education.
