The perinatal mortality ratio in target area is 63.8 baby deaths per 1000 live births which is unacceptably high (this ratio is 4.77 in the UK for comparison). Many mother and baby deaths can be saved by improving access to perinatal care. Currently, the nearest government facility providing perinatal support in the communities that our charity serves is 25 km away. There is no public transport and the cost of a taxi is prohibitive for most families.

The Abaseen Foundation has already constructed a basic health centre (4500 square foot) that is now close to completion and will become fully operational by September 2026. The next phase of the build is to create a mother and child unit and emergency care facility (an additional 3070 square foot) that will operate 24/7. This unit will offer perinatal support for mothers and nutrition support for their infants and children as well as emergency services for the general population.
