In Kenya, poverty remains a major barrier to education, and many students do not complete secondary school. Around a million young people enter the job market each year, yet many struggle to access decent work due to skills gaps and limited job opportunities, leaving them with few routes to a more secure future. Young women and girls face additional barriers including gender inequality, unpaid care responsibilities and limited access to training, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Our locally-led Seed of Hope vocational and business skills training initiative, provides free, high-quality, courses for young people experiencing poverty, aged 14-25. We support access and learning with lunches, period pads, childcare vouchers, and flexibility for young mothers. We foster personal development through life skills, and mental wellbeing with counselling. Every student will be equipped with the skills needed to gain employment or set up a business to generate a sustainable income.
