Mental health is a growing national concern, with 1 in 5 children experiencing mental health difficulties. Children and young people have faced intense change and uncertainty in recent years, contributing to an increase of anxiety, sadness and low self-esteem. With 50% of all mental health issues forming before the age of 14, childhood is a vital chance to act. Currently, over half a million children are on a waiting list for mental health services, with 30% left waiting for over two years.
Using tried and tested methods backed by research, pupils are supported by a dedicated Place2Be mental health professional embedded in the school team to promote emotional wellbeing. Support includes one-to-one counselling for children with complex needs, drop-in counselling sessions where any child can speak to a professional about what is worrying them, and advice for parents and school staff. With support, children can grow resilience to navigate life's challenges both now and in the future.
