The Sixteen addresses the decline of music education in schools and the lack of access to choral singing in culturally underserved areas. Its Learning and Participation work empowers young people, older adults, and marginalized communities by providing transformative musical experiences. It aim to alleviate feelings of isolation, boost mental wellbeing, and foster social cohesion through choral singing. By engaging diverse groups, it cultivates a new generation who benefits from music and song.
The Sixteen will solve the problem by implementing a comprehensive Learning and Participation Programme that includes workshops, masterclasses, and residencies in schools and communities. Its Animateurs will provide expert vocal training and mentorship to singers, young and old, especially from underrepresented backgrounds as it travels around the UK. By fostering partnerships with local organisations, it will ensure accessibility and secure ongoing engagement with choral music into the future.
