Many people in Ethiopia lack basic healthcare and die with distressing symptoms. Hospice Ethiopia gives free home based palliative care to those in desperate need. After recent economic and political upheaval, keeping HE’s highly trained staff on fair wages is essential to sustain this vital work.

Specialist palliative care is still new in Ethiopia, and Hospice Ethiopia (HE) is the only non government organisation dedicated to this type of care in the country. With no government funding and increasing costs driven by political instability and inflation, HE is under increasing financial pressure. To keep caring for those in greatest need, it must pay its dedicated staff, wages that allow them to stay. This project will provide crucial financial stability for the forthcoming year.
As palliative care is in its infancy in Ethiopia, HE must provide the specialist training needed to provide this care. By paying a living wage such specialist staff will be encouraged to continue working for this organisation. With highly trained and motivated staff HE will continue providing end of life care and education to Health Care Professionals to widen access to palliative care across the country. HE’s staff are its greatest asset and so we have made their livelihoods our top priority.
