1 in 29 children will be bereaved of a parent or sibling by the age of 16. This means there could be a bereaved child in every school class. Research by Sue Ryder illustrates the long-lasting impact of childhood bereavement if left unsupported. It's reported that those who experience a significant bereavement as a child, achieve lower than average GCSE grades, are over-represented in the prison sector aged 30 and above, and are more at risk of developing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
For the past 30 years, Daisy's Dream has provided support to children and young people who have been affected by bereavement or are preparing for loss. It is the only charity in Berkshire that is solely committed to this cause. Each child and young person referred to us is offered an individually tailored package of support to meet their needs. This can include a combination of 1:1 support, over the phone advice to parents and a range of group events designed to meet different needs.
