1 in 4 women in Scotland will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and children are present in around one-third of domestic abuse incidents recorded by Police Scotland. Yet too often women and children are excluded from decisions that affect their safety, wellbeing and future. Their experiences can be minimised, their voices overlooked and their rights undermined. Too often, decisions affecting women's and children's lives are made without understanding, putting their safety at risk.

Scottish Women's Aid works alongside survivors and services to ensure lived experience drives change. We help women access specialist legal advice and representation, support children and young people to have their rights heard, and work to ensure decisions affecting women and children's lives are informed by the realities of domestic abuse. Through influencing law, policy, and practice, we help create safety and protection. When women and children are heard, safer decisions can be made.
