Every year, over 6 million tonnes of perfectly good food is wasted in the UK. In theory, the majority of this food should be redistributed to people. In reality, it is used for animal feed, sent to anaerobic digestion plants, or simply dumped in landfil. Meanwhile, millions of people across the UK face food insecurity and social isolation due to rising living costs. Healthier food is now almost tice as expensive per calorie as less healthy alternatives, leading to nutrition and health inequality
We rescue surplus food from farmers, manufacturers and suppliers, and take it to where it is needed most. 8000 community organisations receive food from us each week, supporting over 1.5mn people across the UK. 92% of these organisations provide wrap-around services, which helps to increase the resilience of communities. Our food also supports the financial sustainability of these organisations as they would otherwise have to buy this food and stop offering other services.
