Through CWB’s history of working with girls and young women on and off the pitch in Uganda we have observed and heard that in many communities, menstruation is surrounded by myths and social restrictions that limit girls’ confidence, mobility, and participation in sport. Beliefs about impurity, physical weakness and appropriate behaviour during menstruation often lead girls to withdraw from physical activity, school, and social spaces.
PwC camps engage girls in interactive, game-based sessions creating safe spaces to share experiences, challenge myths, and build knowledge about women’s health. Girls propose their own strategies for challenging misinformation through peer education, community engagement, and creative communication. Alongside learning and discussion, camps address practical barriers by introducing sports bras and washable menstrual pads, supporting girls to manage menstruation comfortably while remaining active.
