We need your help to create a landmark public garden in the heart of London, transforming a derelict site outside the Garden Museum, Lambeth, into a green oasis for neighbours to enjoy, schoolchildren to get their hands in the soil, and future gardeners to take their first steps into horticulture.

In London 80% of public space is roads and pavements. Lambeth is one of the most unequal, deprived boroughs in the UK, and access to green space is extremely low. As the climate changes, the few parks we have are not fit for the future. As a result young people living near the Garden Museum don’t see gardening as for them. Opportunities to get hands muddy and explore horticultural careers are limited. We believe our neighbours need access to soil. We want to make London greener, not greyer.

Lambeth Council have offered us a lease on a derelict site, St Mary's Gardens. If we raise the funds, this underused park will become a living laboratory for children, trainees, and an inspiring new public garden. Biodiverse, naturalistic planting by Dan Pearson OBE will create a new model for how public space can be fit for future climates, and benefit health and wellbeing. Our corner of Lambeth will be greener for our neighbours, and will enable training for the next generation of gardeners.
