HEALS is a social welfare charity helping disadvantaged people, often needing multiple types of support. Financial difficulties can lead to mental health issues which may spiral into what seem to be unsurmountable problems. The cost of living crisis is increasing hardship. We see many cases of bankruptcy, unemployment, requests for household basics and people on very low income struggling to make ends meet. Over the winter some cannot afford heating and eating and have to make hard choices

During Covid we established an Emergency Hardship Fund providing essential support to people in need in our community, a joint initiative with the Town Council. Since then we have maintained a Hardship Fund and receive requests for help on a daily basis from people who can't afford the basics. Its a vital lifeline supporting people through hard times; we have spent nearly £50,000 to date. Our winter welfare appeal seeks to boost this Fund so that we can continue to support those in need.
