More than one-third of sharks and rays face extinction due to overfishing, bycatch, habitat loss, pollution and climate change. Many species remain poorly understood, leaving governments and conservationists without the evidence needed to prioritise action, reduce threats and measure recovery. Without robust science translated into practical conservation, these declines will continue.

MARECO combines science, collaboration and innovation to turn evidence into conservation action. We work with governments, researchers, communities and NGOs to generate knowledge, inform policy, build local capacity and improve protection for threatened sharks and rays. Unrestricted funding enables us to respond rapidly to emerging priorities and invest where it will deliver the greatest conservation impact.
