I in 5 children in the UK have a probable mental health condition and these numbers are rising. The number of children referred to mental health services has risen by more than 10% in one year, with more than 60,000 waiting more than 2 years for help. In addition, young people from the poorest 20% of the population are 4 times more likely to experience poor mental health, alongside other determinants including ethnicity, refugee/asylum status and young carers.
Sport in Mind engages children and young people in safe, non-judgemental movement sessions that improve mood, build confidence and reduce isolation, providing proactive support while waiting for services or alongside treatment. Our workshops develop mental health awareness, emotional resilience and understanding of the link between physical activity and wellbeing, helping young people build healthy habits through early intervention and prevention.
