As winter descends in Afghanistan, millions are experiencing extreme hunger. Years of economic hardship, displacement, climate shocks and declining humanitarian funding have pushed communities to the brink. You can help families survive the harsh winter and build a pathway out of hunger.

Every province in Afghanistan faces crisis-level or worse food insecurity, with 4.7 million people experiencing emergency hunger. Nearly 5 million mothers and children are expected to suffer malnutrition this year, while 3.7 million children already face acute malnutrition. Humanitarian funding has fallen sharply, reducing support for vulnerable families. Winter brings further hardship, with snow and freezing temperatures cutting off access to healthcare, markets and income opportunities.

We distribute emergency food parcels to families in times of crisis, and provide emergency cash support so they can buy food locally, supporting both households and local markets. We strengthen livelihoods and food security for the long term and tackle the root causes of hunger by providing families with seeds, tools and training to get back on their feet in spring and build sustainable sources of food and income. With this support families can regain their independence and resilience.
