Too many families with young children face multiple disadvantages, including social isolation, financial hardship, poor housing and limited access to support services. Families living in temporary accommodation often have no safe place for children to play and experience significant barriers to accessing early years support. These challenges can negatively affect children’s development, parents’ wellbeing and families’ long-term outcomes.

Hackney Playbus brings play, learning and support directly into communities through our converted double-decker bus and community playgroups. We deliver free weekly sessions across Hackney, helping families build friendships, reduce isolation and access specialist support. Working closely with health professionals and local partners, we reach families facing the greatest barriers to support. In 2024-25, we supported 630 children, 500 families and delivered 235 sessions across eight locations.
