Communities are at war, species and habitats are under threat, and humans and wildlife populations are in conflict. In a world of unrest, A Rocha’s nature-based activities bring peace to communities, wildlife and landscapes – with churches playing an ever-increasing role.

There are currently 110 armed conflicts taking place globally. But conflicts don’t just affect people. There are also conflicts between humans, and our lifestyles, and nature. We are facing urgent ecological crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. More than 48,600 species are at risk of extinction and 489 million ha have been deforested since 1990. These crises are worsened by population growth, pollution and urbanization. We mourn all loss of life and long to be people bringing peace.

A Rocha’s conservation, education and church engagement activities have brought peace for 40 years. We want to grow and expand our work by: • Addressing human-wildlife conflicts; • Delivering environmental education to 10,000 young people; • Protecting 5 highly threatened habitats; • Running beach cleanups in 6 countries to reduce plastic waste; • Using nature-based projects to enhance human wellbeing in at least 3 conflict areas; • Equipping church communities to bring peace to the land.
