Every two hours, someone in the UK sustains a spinal cord injury. More than 105,000 people are living with SCI, yet around 80% miss out on specialist support when they need it most. The impact extends beyond the injury itself, affecting confidence, relationships, wellbeing and sense of identity. Too many people face life after injury feeling isolated, uncertain and unsupported, without access to people who truly understand their experience.

Back Up connects people with practical support, trusted guidance and a community that understands. Through peer support, mentoring, wheelchair skills, family services and information, people build confidence, develop independence and reconnect with what matters most. Support begins in spinal units and continues throughout life, ensuring people and families have someone alongside them as they navigate life after injury.
